New Floor Plan

Considering Mr. Jim Croft suggestions and inputs, we decided to revise our floor plan and make some minor adjustments. We changed our downstairs kitchen/ utility closet to make the kitchen bigger for space and provided the washer/dryer and the water heater downstairs next to the kitchen in a separate closet. We also moved the utility closet next to the wall instead of next to the kitchen wall. We were having problems with our balcony upstairs because it seemed too small to be useable so we extended the balcony on the master and secondary bedrooms. We changed our stairs to be more useable based on the calculations of stairs.

Project review 11.02.09

Here a few initial thoughts;
- You might consider adding a bathroom at the Master Suite
- The balconies may be too small to be useable
- Look closely at how you align windows and doors on different levels on the exterior elevations
- Make sure that stairs work
- Does bathroom downstairs work?
-The kitchen may be too small
- Sinking the Family Room while really cool may actually make it feel smaller
- Why have a jog in the exterior wall?
- What will the exterior materials be?
I welcome your comments and thoughts.

House Description

The current project that our KALM Housing Team is working on is being designed for the park service weekend cabins on Jekyll Island. The surrounding enviroment has greatly influenced the design of our cabin. The cabin will be positioned lakeside in the forests of Jekyll Island. Our cabin's exterior design has been chosen to compliment the natural surroundings and the historical homes of Jekyll Island. Our house has taken elements of the historical plantation homes and some elements of lakehouses to create an appropriate weekend cabin for visitors. The interior of our cabin is greatly influence by the size of our house, as we have been limited to a 24'x24' floorplan. Still, we have made efforts to keep the home as open as possible to overcome the cramped feeling one would normally get in such a small home. We have provided kitchen and laundry areas for the visitors to use at their convenience. For example, we have chosen to create a large, open main room without walls. This will make the house feel larger. In order to define the spaces, we have created a sunken living area. Our second floor has been designed to provide comfortable sleeping area for the family without sacrificing any luxuries that a normal room would have.
